During the Russian invasion of Ukraine in 2022, the Russian Federation forcibly relocated thousands of Ukrainian children to territories under its control, granted them Russian citizenship, forcibly adopted them into Russian families, and created obstacles to the reunification of children with their parents and homeland. Estimates of the number of Ukrainian children deported to Russia range from 19,592 to 307,000 with no indication of when they will be able to return to their hometowns.
