Artist Statement of Olena Shepura
In my artistic practice, I address a wide range of themes that resonate with contemporary society.
I am deeply affected by the theme of war, its impact on individuals and the fate of entire nations. In my works, I critically examine propaganda, exposing its manipulative techniques and destructive effects.
Trauma, both individual and collective, is another important aspect of my artistic exploration. I strive to understand and process it using various artistic means.
Environmental issues also occupy a significant place in my creative palette. I call for a respectful attitude towards nature and an awareness of the fragility of our world.
Feminism is another important topic that I explore. I raise questions about self-identity, gender roles, the fate and formation of women in modern society.
In each series of works, I use my own individual approach and stylistic presentation. The idea of the work is inextricably linked to its style of execution, which, in my opinion, is an important component of artistic expression.
I believe in the power of art as a tool for social change. My works are designed to encourage reflection, critical thinking about reality, and the search for constructive solutions to current problems.
